Mike is Currently...

Mike’s last CD (Volume 6 All Originals), opened many doors.  While most British Artists followed the well trodden path of recording the same old format of churning out copies of well known American songs, Mike broke new ground, recording all original songs and it brought him to the attention of many Country magazines, Country radio programs. Local papers and even featured on ‘YouTube’, not to mention worldwide interest in Mike.

Mike has built a reputation as one of the foremost ‘Entertainers’ on the country circuit.  From the biggest festivals, to the smallest country music club he has delivered hi own brand of ‘good solid entertainment’.  This new CD reflects Mike’s versatility, there are songs here that reflect every aspect of life.  Mike called in his good friend Iain Duncan to help him record this CD, Iain has recorded and worked on live shows with Mike many times, and according to Mike he is a ‘one man Country Band’, a very talented musician as you will hear when you play this CD.  Mike lane is going from strength to strength and this new CD of all original songs will please fans and win him many more new fans, of that I have no doubt

Most of the songs on this CD are written by a long-standing friend or Mike’s, Ron Ryan.  Ron was the ‘ghost writer’ for the Dave Clark five, and wrote many songs for the DC5 including some of their biggest hits such as ‘Bit’s and Pieces’, ‘Because’, ‘Anyway you want it’.  In the late 1960’s Ron turned his attention to his first love, Country Music, and formed some great Country Bands, such as ‘Ron Ryan’s Country Express’, ‘Von Ryan’s Express’ and ‘Crowbait’.  In 1969 he toured with Willie Nelson and has also toured with other well known American singers.

In 1972 Ron moved to Lincolnshire, where he still lives, and formed ‘Ron Ryan and Friends’ featuring among other great artists the ‘Duffy Brothers’ (Ray & Leo).  Ron recorded eight albums including ‘The Nassington Flyer’, which is now a collectors item and signed copies have been sold on ebay for £100.

My very good friend Iain Duncan was again more than willing to play on this CD, as the last one gave him worldwide recognition, with five No. 1’s from the last CD on NumberOneMusic.com.  On this CD he is playing the Bass, Lead and pedal steel guitars.  The other instruments that Iain plays were not required on this CD, 12 string acoustic, mandolin, keyboard and a case of beer that never came out the box until later!

Most of all Ron’s recording work features self-penned songs, and the songs he wrote on this CD were written for Mike’s unique style, and as you can hear they fit Mike’s singing style very well indeed.  Ron has predicted that this CD will become a collectors item in it’s own right, and he has stated that in his humble opinion this is the best CD Mike Lane has recorded to date.

Iain Duncan

One of the tracks on this CD was written by Johnny Caeser—’Be Your Fathers Son’.

Johnny was on ‘Emmerdale’ for many years as a farm hand and appeared in Catherine Cookson’s ‘The Gambler’.  As a songwriter, Johnny’s latest CD ‘The Price of Coal’ is outstanding and I have recorded one of the tracks from that CD.  One of his previous songs was recorded by Tom Jones and another was to have been recorded by Marty Robbins, but he sadly passed away before recording could commence.
